To initiate a profound transformation, we agree on a medium-scale project that has a significant impact. This project serves as the basis for understanding both the internal and external constraints unique to your organisation.

We will map out your organisation’s value stream for the selected project. This will enable all individuals involved in that stream to gain a clear view of its structure, recognise other contributors, and understand their respective roles. They will thus be better equipped to spot inefficiencies and potential improvements.

Prerequisites

  • Involvement of top management in Lean discussions to promote adoption across different teams.
  • Unrestricted access to employees, from interns to executives.

Our Approach: A ±3 Weeks Audit

  1. Select a project that is impactful yet not overly complex.
  2. One of our consultants will shadow the key individuals involved in this project.
  3. Document workflows, communication channels, and the decision-making process.
  4. Analyse the internal and external constraints that influence the value stream.
  5. Monitor DORA metrics:
    • Lead Time: The time it takes for a “piece of value” to move from idea to production.
    • Deployment Frequency: How often changes are deployed to production.
    • Change Failure Rate: The percentage of deployments that result in production failures.
    • Mean Time to Restore: The time required to get back up and running after a production failure.

Deliverables

  • A detailed map of the value stream for the chosen project.
  • A workshop with the personnel who represent the value stream, aimed at fostering dialogue and identifying opportunities for simplification.
  • By the end of the workshop, your team will have collaboratively produced an action plan to optimise the value stream (in terms of both lead times and quality).
